AGROFERNS/TROPICULTIVOS – GUATEMALA

Agroferns/Tropicultivos in Guatemala produces leather leaf ferns and is owned by Mr. Alfredo Miron. LAAD’s relationship with the company dates back to 1991, when Mr. Miron approached LAAD for a loan to finance a nine-hectare production expansion. At the time, the company’s annual sales were about US$1 million.

Since then, and with LAAD’s continued support, Mr. Miron has financed several expansion projects. Today, the company has annual sales of over US$10 million from over 160-hectares of leather leaf fern plantations that produce an average of 30,000 bunches per acre. This production yield places the company squarely among the world’s most efficient producers. Mr. Miron is already Guatemala’s largest producer and exporter of leather leaf fern, and he continues to grow and expand production.
